I am raising a orphan puppy. He's 2 wks old. My vet said I need to rub his butt/genitals after feedings with a warm cotton ball to stimulate him to go to.the bathroom. But I forgot to ask If I am supposed to rub until he goes or just for a certain amount of time? He already pees a little on his own...but I've been rubbing anyways. Any other tips on anything? Thanks

You gently rub until the dog goes. Make sure he is warm and not in drafts. (but don't over heat the pup)

mother dogs will usually lick the stomach/genitals of the puppy and then push them out of the nest to stop them from soiling in the bed, so i suggest rubbing and then waiting 5 minutes then rub again

A puppy this age can not go to the bathroom on his own. He may go a little but he needs stimulation to be able to empty his entire bladder. A baby wipe warmed up works really well. We raise dogs and occasionally we have to be mom so this is a necessary thing to be done. It also helps the baby burp cause just like human babies dog babies need burped also. When the mom is licking the baby after feeding she gets all of this done. He is not going to go every time you feed him, but he will most of the time. I would just rub him for a few minutes and if he doesn't go try again in about 30 minutes. Good Luck!!

Continue to gently rub until he finishes going potty. Make sure to keep the area very clean. A very very very soft warm rag works great too! Also always rub upwards toward the tail.
